In 1900, Sir Edward Marshall, then the Southport MP, was heckled by a group of High Park residents. This incident is recorded in Michael Braham’s book on the history of Southport Liberals.

Sir Edward Marshall a famous barrister who became known as ‘The Great Defender’, was locked out of the hall in High Park, but undeterred, he climbed through a window instead.
